Cullen Meurer (graduate) and Adam Schmidt (undergraduate) were awarded internships with Los Alamos National Lab (LANL) in New Mexico and True Elements, Inc. in Florida, respectively. Mr. Meurer will be working with Dr. Katherine Telfeyan and others on the Radionuclide Geochemistry Team at LANL to study the mobility of uranium in contaminated aquifers. Mr. Schmidt will be working on building cutting edge water forecasting tools to improve water quality across the United States. Both internships are paid and remote. Jiyan Hatami Awarded GSA Research Grant
Jiyan Hatami was awarded a GSA research grant for his proposal entitled, “Sorption of 2-naphthalene sulfonate to organic-rich sediments in batch and column experiments”. The grant is worth $1,250.
Cullen Meurer Awarded UWM Research Fellowship
Cullen Meurer was awarded the Nelson Cherkauer Lasca Legacy Summer Research Fellowship for his research on the fate and transport of uranium in groundwater at former US Department of Energy field sites. Adam Schmidt was awarded the GSA North-Central Section undergraduate research grant for his proposal entitled, “The Milwaukee Column: A simple, affordable, and effective apparatus for teaching and research of one-dimensional flow and transport in porous media”.
