The Mountain Shear Zone is located near the town of Mountain, Wisconsin. (HA! I bet you didn’t know there was a Mountain, Wisconsin!). The shear zone formed during the Proterozoic Penokean orogeny (continental collision).
- Deformed granite gneiss, the star attraction of the Mountain Shear Zone.
- A basaltic dike (dark horizontal band in center of photo) intrudes the granite gneiss.
- Juk likes to collect big samples!
- Dan, juk, and Dyanna make and get coordinates for tracings of detailed deformation features in the rocks.
- The scenery in Mountain is pretty in the fall.
- Wildlife in Mountain- a porcupine.
- More wildlife in Mountain- a big toad.
