Piezoelectric Transducer Design

Motivation:

  • Piezoelectric transducers are regularly used to actuate and sense strain waves in structures for Structural Health Monitoring.  The design of these transducers can greatly affect the frequencies they effectively actuate at, electrical efficiency, and the waveforms they generate.

Goal:

  • Ongoing research is seeking to design new transducers that are tuned to the forms of actuation or sensing desired with improved energy efficiency
