LSPPE students, faculty, and alumni present at 37th annual AASP conference

The 37th Annual Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) Conference was presented in Fort Worth, Texas on October 26-29, 2022. During the conference, Laboratory for Sport Psychology and Performance Excellence (LSPPE) students, faculty, and alumni provided workshops, panels, lectures, and posters.

In her role as the establishing Editor-in-Chief for the Journal for Advancing Sport Psychology in Research (JASPR), LSPPE faculty Dr. Monna Arvinen-Barrow contributed to the featured panel discussion How to Publish in AASP Journals. In the session, she offered her insights along with other Editorial Board representatives of each of the AASP journals. The information shared included how to successfully submit a manuscript and what future authors should focus on when submitting their work.

LSPPE alumna Dr. Stacy Gnacinski contributed to a presentation titled 5 Slides in 5 Minutes: Emerging Topics. The session provided audience members with information on how to work with performers coming from diverse backgrounds and with diverse identities, as well as psychopharmacological perspectives and use within a sport context.

LSPPE alumnus Dr. William Massey delivered a Continuing Education (CE) workshop titled A Trauma-Informed Approach to Performance: A Necessary Competency for all Sport Psychology Professionals. The workshop included didactic information on trauma and its relevance to sport and performance, and provided attendees with the opportunity to create evidence-based and trauma-sensitive practices for their own use.

LSPPE doctoral student Anthony Magdaleno presented a lecture titled Identifying Predictors of the Health and Performance of Certified Mental Performance Consultants. In the lecture, factors impairing or protecting the health and performance of sport psychology professionals (e.g., Certified Mental Performance Consultants; CMPCs) were discussed, as well as implications for professional practice and directions for future research. Additionally, Anthony was the recipient of the 2022 Conference Student Abstract Award. The purpose of the award is to allow student members to present their work.

LSPPE students, faculty, and alumni also contributed to the many informative posters presented at the conference.
