Somewhere to Settle

By Adrian Ellis Hughes

Ungodly aura sticks like dust in the physical
things in need of floss.
In the blue yellowed bible under a bland bookmark,
one impeccably highlighted quote about
trials making you stronger.
Under rustling mice in the wall,
dreams of captivity.
No one has read these books for at least one decade.
Between the black curves of letters and the air
between paper grains, a larger capacity for this accretion,
soaking the bed.
