Rough Month

By Megan Landre

how do you stop swallowing worms I cough them
up in the shower and I really don’t like that they
crawl towards me or what should I do when upon
entering a room all the picture frames and
portraits plunge from the walls at the very sight
of me or what if I’m in a dance hall and not one
person not one single person will hold my hand
even when I beg of them or maybe I’ll be walking
down the street and find that all my fingernails
have left a trail behind me and sometimes I’ll
touch one tooth and somehow they all fall out
how should I go about collecting them and let’s
say that I’m forced to take cyanide in my cereal
and all I can do is cry and ask for syrup or how
about when I walk outside and the sky’s on fire
is that when I call my mom to tell her that I’ve
been having trouble sleeping
