Lisa Taxier has been awarded a National Research Service Award (NRSA, F31) from the National Institute of Mental Health to study the role of hippocampal astrocytes in memory and estrogenic regulation of memory. This prestigious award will support Lisa’s studies for three years. Congratulations Lisa!
Senior undergraduate Sarah Philippi was selected to present her Alzheimer’s Association-funded research at the 2019 Posters on the Hill event in Washington, DC. Sarah was the only student selected from the state of Wisconsin! She will present her work on Capitol Hill and discuss her research with legislators from Wisconsin. Congratulations to Sarah on being selected to represent not only UWM, but the entire state of Wisconsin!

Congratulations to Jaekyoon Kim, who successfully defended his doctoral 
dissertation on August 1! Jaekyoon’s thesis was entitled, “The effects of G-protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) on cell signaling, dendritic spines, and memory consolidation in the female mouse hippocampus”. His next stop is a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Iowa with Dr. Ted Abel. Good luck Jaekyoon–we will miss you!!
