Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the topic of municipal-level responses to the outbreak of the virus has been seriously raised over the last two years. The accountability of public government officials at all levels, their method of addressing the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the availability of trustworthy, verifiable public health experts, and the availability of municipal and county-level COVID-19 data have all become prominent demands within these past two years. We offer a comprehensive, palatable composition of data representing how various city mayors across the United States have tweeted about the COVID-19 pandemic throughout 2020. We coded for mentions of social distancing, mask-wearing, and various types of public health expertise. We hope that this exhaustive dataset will allow researchers to posit and investigate new theories with relative ease.
