Final Report on The Arecibo Telescope Collapse Published

November 10, 2024

The National Academies’ of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine formed a committee to investigate the collapse of the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico in 2020. Professor Habib Tabatabai, Director of the Structural Engineering Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, was a member of this committee. The final report of the committee was published on October 25, 2024, which can be downloaded here.

Structural Engineering Laboratory partial remodel and new equipment

The instructional area of the Structural Engineering Laboratory was recently remodeled to include more space for hands-on testing by students, more electromechanical test machines and more workstations. The electromechanical and servo-hydraulic test machines in the laboratory are also in the process of being upgraded and equipped with the latest software. The lab acquired three new electro-mechanical test machines with enhanced load capacity and up-to-date capabilities.

AASHTO Recognition for Research on Thin Polymer Overlays for Bridge Decks
