LSPPE Graduate Students Awarded AOP Fellowship

Laboratory for Sport Psychology and Performance Excellence (LSPPE) master’s student Kaitlyn Hickey was recently awarded UWM’s Advanced Opportunity (AOP) Fellowship for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. As described by the UWM graduate school, “The Advanced Opportunity Program Fellowship is funded by the State of Wisconsin. AOP Fellowships are designed to assist underrepresented racial/ethnic minority as well as disadvantaged non-minority students in graduate study to enter and complete a graduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM)”. When asked what this fellowship means to her, Hickey stated “Having the support from the AOP fellowship allows me to have more time in dedication to my studies, without having to worry about additional funding options”.

In addition, LSPPE doctoral students Anthony Magdaleno and Derek Zike had their AOP fellowships renewed for the 2021-2022 school year. In appreciation of the fellowship Magdaleno reflected “The support provided by the AOP fellowship allows me to concentrate my time and effort on the development of my research and the progression of my degree, rather than outside work”. Similarly, Zike stated “This fellowship has been instrumental to my success over the past two years, especially throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The continued support means I can pursue dissertation tasks without burdening myself with additional roles”.
