Oral Presentation Block 1

Thermal spray processes are a very useful additive manufacturing coating technology which allows for the modification of surface properties for many different materials. This technology permits engineers to tailor material microstructure for better protection from surface degradation.  We will be using computer models to simulate dynamic particle impacts and then use actual samples to verify the validity of our models. We expect to be able to accurately model the thermal spray process which will allow for a better understanding, as well as an ability to modify the process to obtain more optimal properties. With the thermal process model we will be able to look at the relationship between different processing variables and their effect on the final coating. This will allow for more efficient development of new thermal spray coatings as well as a better understanding
