This study examines motorized and cognitive inhibition and emotional difficulties in individuals who experience symptoms usually observed in disorders characterized by anxiety, depression, obsession, trauma, and compulsive behaviors.
If you agree to participate, you will first be asked to complete a brief online screening survey that will take approximately five minutes to complete. The questions will ask for some basic demographic information and ask you to download Inquisit software to see if your computer can run the program. You may also complete the study in person if you do not own a computer/webcam. If your responses to this screening survey indicate you are eligible for the full study, you will then be prompted to complete the study’s experimental tasks. You will first complete a computerized cognitive task designed to assess various aspects of inhibition, which will take approximately 20-40 minutes to complete. After this task, you will then complete an online survey that will take approximately 60 minutes to complete.
Data will be collected at one time point with a chance for an additional session (with additional compensation) if effortful participation is demonstration. As such, your cumulative time spent on this study is expected to be around 2 hours.
Your participation in this study will be compensated through extra credit hours in the SONA system (for UWM students taking psychology courses). It is estimated that data collection will take about 2 hours. As such, you will be granted a total of 2 hours of extra credit. This credit will be granted at the end of study. If you choose to discontinue participation at any point, you will be granted credit for the portions of the study you completed. If for some reason your responses indicate that you have not put in adequate effort, you may be denied extra credit.
Individuals who provide quality data and effortful responses will have the chance to be invited back in approximately 1 month for a follow up study which, if invited, will offer 2 extra credit hours or a $10 gift card.
