UWM Structural Engineering Laboratory (UWM-SEL) Acquires New Testing and Research Capabilities

The Structural Engineering Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM-SEL) has acquired new material and structural testing and research capabilities in the form of multiple advanced servo-hydraulic and electromechanical test machines.

The facility is one of the largest in the region and includes a large strong floor as well as a reaction wall allowing application of custom multi-directional loading to structural systems of various sizes and shapes. The UWM Structural Engineering Laboratory is an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory. The lab supports educational and research activities and performs testing services using its broad range of structural and materials testing capabilities. These capabilities include mechanical properties of materials (strength, modulus of elasticity, fatigue, creep, coefficient of thermal expansion, high and low-temperature material performance, etc.),  environmental/durability testing (such as freeze-thaw resistance, accelerated corrosion, UV exposure, Xenon arc testing, chloride penetration in concrete), and non-destructive testing.
