Syntax and semantics
I have investigated a variety of topics in the area of degree and comparison, including the structure of than clauses; comparative quantifiers; the syntax of gradable adjectives; the determination of standards for positives; scope, thematics, and adjective classes in the tough construction; and the encoding of subjectivity in gradable vocabulary.
I am also interested in the perennial core problems of the syntax-semantics interface, especially those related to scope, binding, and ellipsis.
In the realm of historical syntax, I have written about the origin of English passive get.
