I am a professor of mathematics at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. I study topology and geometric group theory. My main research interests include hyperbolic groups, low-dimensional topology, and nonpositive curvature. My PhD was at Cornell under the guidance of Dani Wise and Karen Vogtmann.
My current and former PhD students include Prayagdeep Parija, Ashani Dasgupta (PhD 2020), Hoang Thanh Nguyen (PhD 2019), Matthew Haulmark (PhD 2017), Joseph Tidmore (PhD 2017), Hung Cong Tran (PhD 2015), and Jeremy Osborne (PhD 2014).
On Wednesday evenings I work in the UWM Math Circle, an enrichment activity for local students in middle school and high school. We focus on challenging and puzzling problems with a goal of developing mathematical thinking and reasoning skills.
