Project Activities

The EFP Interviews:

  • This first interview – which we call the Parent Prep Check – happens before the baby is born during the 2nd Trimester.
  • Follow-up meetings are held when the child is 6 months old and 18 months old.
  • Each meeting lasts about 3 hours but is designed to be very interesting and helpful.

What happens during these meetings?

  • Young couples share their stories, including how they are feeling about becoming parents.
  • Questions also focus on each parent’s health and the couple’s relationship.
  • After the baby is born, we gather additional information about the baby’s health and the couples’ experience as parents and co-parents.

What happens after the Parent Prep Check?

  • One group of expectant parents will be invited to receive Father Inclusive Prenatal Care (FIPC) services which involves co-parenting and parenting education and support. FIPC services are voluntary, meaning couples may say “No Thanks” and it will not affect their other services at Erie Family Health.
  • Another group of expectant parents will receive their regular prenatal care services from Erie Family Health Centers. They will be given information about other services that might be helpful too.
  • Both groups will be invited to participate in the follow up meeting when their babies are 6 and 18 months.
