Authenticity and Self-Impersonation (Fall, 2024)
Much has been written about authenticity, about its importance, and about the consequences of faking it. But much of this discussion misses the mark. So, I will revisit these basic questions:
What does it mean to be an authentic person? Is it something that I am and do for myself, or are others necessarily involved? Can one know one’s own authenticity? Might it be that we all faking it?
In three sessions, we will explore authenticity and imposture in books and movies.
