I am working as a research assistant in the production of Lilly Warren’s feature-length documentary, Uncoiled. My responsibilities include helping to prepare for production and administrative tasks, as well as file management and organization. Research concludes with the completion of a feature-length film with exhibition plans for showcasing at top-tier domestic and international festivals and distribution pursuits of a streaming contract following the festival run. Participating in this project aligns with my personal goals of creating empowering and impactful feminist films. Being involved in production and assisting with administrative tasks will give me insight into how these things are managed on a professional set, which is important in my growth as a filmmaker. This opportunity will prepare me for a career after I graduate, and will make the transition from being a student to working in the industry more seamless. Some of the work I have done so far includes photo organization on Premiere Pro, and viewing edits of the film in progress. We are also preparing for a b-roll shoot later in March. Using Adobe software to organize files for a feature-length film is helping me build on skills that I have learnt as a student in the film department. It has been incredibly helpful for me to see how my knowledge can be applied on a professional documentary. Working on Uncoiled has also given me invaluable skills such as time management and organization, which have already been helpful in the production of my own senior project and my future career endeavors.
