For this research project the ribs of four different large mammals from Wisconsin were examined to create a comparative illustrated guide. This was done to gain a better understanding of how ribs from large Wisconsin mammals differed morphologically; and to create a guide for a topic which has little research done for it because ribs are often neglected within osteological guides. The four mammals focused on were deer, elk, bear, and wolf. These four species were chosen due to their historic prevalence in Wisconsin and their cultural importance. The method of comparison was done by first taking pictures of the four main species and then by creating a comparative list of the distinctive features on the ribs.
