Irish is an endangered language spoken as a community language in small pockets in the West of Ireland, but studied by many thousands of people across Ireland and the world. The Irish language revitalization movement has gained momentum, especially in the US the past few years. There are musical artists, and movies using the language, and an uptick in curricula. Dr. Rebecca Shields decided to create a corpus of audio and transcriptions of the popular Irish television program Ros na Rún. The corpus can be used for the creation of authentic pedagogical materials, as well as for linguistic research. We are using Fieldworks Language Explorer to parse the transcription and analyze the grammatical features of the dialects used in the show, with an end goal of having a broad encompassing corpus of data on conversational Irish. I have been making the audios, and correcting the translations of the program FLEx. My presentation will be on the grammar and syntactic variation of Celtic languages in comparison with Germanic.
