Cuentos de Confianza is a bilingual (Spanish-English) community writing project and website where Latinx health promoters and educators passionately share stories about their work and lived experiences related to reproductive justice. According to SisterSong, a pioneering organization, reproductive justice is the human right to parent, not parent, and raise children in safe and sustainable communities. It is a social movement that also advocates for personal bodily autonomy and gender and sexual freedom. The writers for Cuentos de Confianza are dedicated women who have created safe havens for discussing reproductive and sexual health by developing trust and providing resources to communities across Wisconsin and Puerto Rico. This poster will discuss my work as a translator with the Cuentos project, shedding light on the collaborative effort undertaken with my mentor and the website editor to make the website more linguistically and culturally accessible. Understanding and recognizing the audience while navigating multilingual websites is crucial for ensuring a seamless user experience, encouraging inclusivity, and reaching a diverse audience. For this project, I collaborated with my mentor to understand the audience we hope to reach, analyzed the website, read articles about user testing, and designed a research project to understand bilingual and intergenerational user experiences with the website. I will begin collecting data for that research in summer 2024. As I continue to work on the Cuentos project, I hope my work with this project will encourage and inspire others in the community to speak on their own story about reproductive justice, thereby continuing a cycle of empowerment and advocacy.
