The artist’s name is Niki Ahlgrim and she is currently an art major in the drawing and painting department. Their favorite medium to work with is oil paint, however, they enjoyed getting the opportunity to work in other mediums that they otherwise wouldn’t use as often.

Meghan Bain is a first year Art and Design major with a focus on photography. She has been interested in art ever since she was little, and enjoyed developing her drawing skills during her second semester. She is excited to explore different mediums and practices within the Art and Design program as she continues her education at UWM.

Joshua Bausch is a transfer Design and Visual Communications major interested in the creative process and his relationship to his work. Aside from art, Joshua loves the outdoors, reading, and spending time with friends.

Alyssa Borin is a first-year student who is interested in Design and Visual Communications. Alyssa has mainly worked in 2D but has begun to explore the realm of 3D throughout her first year at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.

Christopher Bravata is a First Year Design and Visual Communications major who has an eclectic design taste and medium preferences. He is exploring the boundaries and elements that constitute one’s self identity through his work. Outside of his practice, Chris enjoys exploring urban and natural environments and giving back to his hometown as an annual participant of the charity event, DesignMil.

Jovanny Hernandez Caballero is a First-Year Photography major who explores the themes of culture and identity through his work. He uses photography as a method to express his voice on social issues and create a dialogue.

Keira Collin is a First Year Art and Design Major, specifically interested in Painting and Drawing. She looks to interpret nature, people, and emotions in her work. When not working as a barista she spends her time outside.

Kianna DeByle is a senior studying Information Science and Technology and minoring in Art and Design. She enjoys exploring the interpretation and recall of memory through the use of art using various mediums.

Kiley is an Art Education major, and although she tends to paint and draw traditionally, she really enjoyed learning digital skills in her Art 118 lab and lecture.

Olivia Fallahee is a first-year biology major and art minor who is interested in drawing, especially animals, and developing a range of studio art skills that will advance her approach to naturalistic representation. She is also interested in working with animals in a face-to-face environment, and currently serves as an adoption counselor and animal care technician at the Wisconsin Humane Society.

Pearl Nemecek is an artist who is deeply invested in the diverse world of art including photography, digital painting, graphic design, drawing, painting, modeling, and videography. Alex is a first year Art and Design major interested in drawing, collage and sculpture, and they have been exploring anger as a secondary emotion and identity in her work. Among other things, Alex is passionate about community gardens, homemade bread, and funky earrings.

Unity is a closed composition I completed for my 2D concepts class. I chose to title my work as unity because it is one of my personal transformations as an artist. I have finally found the major that suits me. I wanted to create something that showed my soft and sweet side. I still have a lot to learn and I will gain new experiences with my art. This is just a little taste of my funky art. The tiny dots on my eyes were created using a 0.005 micron pen. I decided to incorporate rhythm by repeating the same stippling texture on me and on the flower. The swirls around my face are supposed to be vines/veins from the flower. Showing that we are connected and it’s supposed to be a fun play on hair.

Taylor Grossman is a first-year Art and Design major who is interested in graphic design. Although Taylor is a DVC major, she has really enjoyed exploring numerous different art classes this year. She feels that throughout her first year as an art student, she has learned a lot and has really started to develop her own personal style along the way.

Corbin Heisel is a sophomore at UW-Milwaukee and is currently studying art education. Most of Corbin’s inspiration comes from the outside world and how climate change and pollution affect the Earth.

Jose Hernandez is a second year student who became an art major during the second semester of his second year. He enjoys drawing the most with pencils, utilizing micron pens or color pencils to enhance the piece, and explores his own works of fiction, inspired by what he likes, or pieces that are of his interest, like movies, comic books and video games.

Josie Hutter is a First Year Art and Design Minor who is interested in painting and drawing and has been exploring themes of mental health in her work. She is a Psychology Major and hopes to one day practice as an art therapist.

Alison Jones is a First Year Architecture major who is minoring in Graphic Design. Alison recently changed her area of study in health to something that allowed her to utilize her creativity. While it was a difficult decision it was the right one and her passion has followed suit.

Looking Out was created by an undeclared second year named Rose O.Lawton. She creates pieces that challenge the viewers perception of an object or idea.

As of now I’m rather undecided of what I want to do in the future. Although I love art I still need a lot to learn to make a career out of it. Right now my biggest concern is finding what I find passion in.

Grace Noe is a First Year Art and Design major with an emphasis in Photography. In addition to photography she really enjoys learning about, and experimenting with, drawing and painting. Her favorite memory from this year is when she developed her first roll of 35mm film.
