Katie Liapis Journal #8

Light reflecting on people:
Image 1: The streetlight is reflecting on my friend Ross at night as he holds a pumpkin.
Image 2: The natural light comes through the windows and lights up my roommate’s face as she eats her apple.
Image 3: Nora is cooking dinner and is lit under a florescent kitchen light.

Light on face Ben Westerman

All three of these pictures demonstrates lighting in three different lights. The first one was taken on a watch tower up north. The lighting on the face is dark due to the sunrise I the back just coming up. The second picture is of my tech kids that I mentored for Shrek the Musical. The light is so inconsistent due to it being taken at the end of the show on the last que. Very interesting how the back color light shines on the dark faces. The third was taken on a cloudy day at the start of school. This is the perfect light with no shadows.

Nora Sammons

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures from these two instances, but today at The Moors there was red light shining on my shoes. At Mad Planet last night, there were lots of cool lights, but the one I noticed the most were the bright lights highlighting my friend Ayla’s blue eyes.

  1. My property management company out a new light in my apartment yesterday and it is much more yellow than the last one I had. I noticed that it makes me look a bit jaundiced while giving everything in my apartment a subtle yellow tint.
  2. I went to beans and barley with my friend over the weekend and I loved how the natural light backlit the people sitting in the dining room.
  3. I spent probably about five minutes parked on the street trying to get my face lit by oncoming headlights. It’s interesting how one side of my face is more in shadow than the other.

Katie Meulemans Journal week 8

If you cant tell already my week consisted only of The Moors. I got to experience light hitting my actors every single day.

  1. In the forst picture I noticed my everyday fairy light above my head give a soft glow around my face. It mostly came from the right side but made the features of my face stand out.

  2. This is of bows. The purple light was able to bounce from the front even though it wasnt directed at them. The bright light above them was made to get as much attention on the performers as possible.

  3. I thought this scene was interesting because even though natalie is on the stage she is suppose to be forgotten. Even though she is not directly lit you can still see her in the shadows. In this process she becomes out of focus for the watcher.

Patrick’s lighting Journal week 8

This week lighting journal I went to the light lab and created some scene. This one had smoke and used that as little bit of haze and then a strong top and very tightly shuttered side light. I was going for something very dramatic and a look that would work for example after a murder in a show.

Not entirely following this weeks prompt unfortunately, I didn’t know how to ask if i could use strangers for homework. It’s quite pretty in Minneapolis though!
