While in Tennessee over break I went and saw a Christmas show. As you can imagine, there were a multitude of trees up and decorated. The one that caught my eye, however, was the one they had on stage during the performance. It was interesting and cool seeing how the different colored lights reflected off the many glass ornaments. At times I almost forgot there were ornaments on there because they seemed to blend right in. with the rest of the lights on the tree.

Caitlin C. – Light and water
When first looking at this spot on the water, I was just going to take a picture. However, once I did so, it did not come out so as to do what I was seeing justice. So, I decided to take a short clip of it instead. What I love about this clip is the way the movement of the water comes across and looks. It does the moment way more justice than a still image.

Night Light 3- Nicole
So, Sandburg had a fire alarm go off tonight, which was fun. After we’d gotten all of the kids away from North Tower, the RAs were left to just sort of stand around a little ways away, not doing anything other then letting people move around the tower. While waiting I noticed the shadows that were coming off from the deck near us onto the walk way. The colors particularly are interesting, as there are high lights of brighter light from the yellow light poles all around campus, but there are also areas that seem to be a cool light blue, and obviously the dark spots of the shadows. I also like the ways the shadows and light are crisscrossing each other.
Night Light 2- Nicole
On the way home from class on Wednesday everything was very rainy and kind of gross out. As I was walking though I couldn’t help but notice the way some of the light was reflecting off of the puddles that were scattered around. What was particularly interesting about them was that most of the puddle was dark, but there would be one bright spot where the light from the street pole was hitting it. However for whatever reason it was really hard to get a good photo of. I did the best I could, and while it didn’t come through much, just a bit in the puddle on the sidewalk, it did pick up some other interesting things, such as the spots of light from other light poles, and the very triangle shadow coming off the one near me.

I was coming home from Pick-N-Save at the beginning of the week, and as I was walking back I noticed the way the light was reflecting off the grass. It isn’t coming through super well in the picture, since it was cold and I was trying to move fast, but you can see the brighter area near where I’m standing, and how it gets darker the farther away from me, and the building, it gets. There is also one really bright spot near the middle that’s from the headlights of a car that was starting up as I walked.

The other night when I was trying to go to sleep, I noticed that the light coming through my window was a lot lighter than it usually is. It was probably around midnight when I was going to bed, so I was surprised to see t was so light out. I couldn’t figure out if there were just more streetlights on that night or what might have caused it, but I found it very interesting.

Taking the bus through the city this week I tried to take a picture of the city lights through the window. Even though the picture isn’t really a great one, I wanted to share it to show how taking pictures of lights at night is a lot more difficult. Especially through windows because of the reflections that are cast.

Your Choice 3- Nicole
I was walking past the soccer soccer field with some of my friends on a night when it was just sort of an almost hazzy rain. The lights were on, and it was creating this cool almost glow effect. I know the camera made the light weird and bright, but you can sort of see it on the tree, how the light is very bright but also weirdly soft. There are no strict edges or anything to it.

Another water bottle, yay! I don’t know, it just sort of worked out that way. Anyway, I saw the way the sunset was reflecting off the metal of my friends water bottle and had to snap a picture of it. I think it’s really cool who there are different colors on different parts of the bottle, with the white at the top, an almost bluish color near the bottom, and the bright orangy color on the left (the part facing the window).

I’ve noticed this a few times when the light hits my water bottle right it creates a cool reflection, even on surfaces that don’t seem super reflective. It almost seems more like a colorful shadow than an actual reflection. Unfortunately my camera dimmed the colors a bit, so the yellow on the table isn’t as vibrant as it was in person, but I think it’s still a cool effect. This doesn’t seem to happen, or at least not as noticeably, when there isn’t any water in the bottle.

This was at a little bar restaurant in soho, New York. I was drawn to the patterns created by these lamps that were made out of expandable colanders (i think!). I like the effect of letting the reflection on the ceiling light the bar area, rather than shining the light directly onto us. Very mellow effect!
