Artist Statement

The purpose of this project and its result, which I have simply titled Tank, is to explore the potential of 3D printing technology in the context of the Kustom Kulture movement specifically as it relates to motorcycle customization. Still, the findings can be applied to artistic expression at large. The Kustom Kulture movement is rooted in the idea of individuality and self-expression through the customization of cars and motorcycles. As a Digital Fabrication and Design major, I wanted to investigate how 3D printing technology can further enhance and further evolve this movement.

Creating a 3D-printed gas tank for a motorcycle offers several advantages over traditional fabrication methods. With 3D modeling and printing, designers and artists can quickly and easily iterate through various designs and concepts, allowing for more experimentation and creativity. Additionally, 3D printing offers a level of accessibility and affordability that traditional fabrication methods cannot typically provide. This allows for deeper participation and democratization of design within the Kustom Kulture movement and beyond.

The heart of this work aims to showcase the power and potential of 3D printing technology in motorcycle customization, while also exploring the importance of self-expression and individuality in the Kustom Kulture movement and beyond. Through this project, I hope to inspire others to explore the possibilities of 3D printing technology and embrace its potential for creativity and self-expression.
