Artist Statement

Born in Madison, Wisconsin, I am a digital artist based in Milwaukee. My roots in Mexican culture have always clashed with my upbringing as an American Gen Zellenial. My recent illustrations display raw emotions and portray events that have significantly impacted my life, including my hair journey, breakup, and adopting my first dog as an adult. The first illustration in this series depicts my hair journey, which started in 2020 when I went to a salon and my hairdresser expressed how my hair wasn’t frizzy but curly. I began experimenting with various hair products, and finally got my curl creams and leave-in conditioners. In the second illustration, I show vulnerability and the heartbreak I went through. On a lighter note, I adopted a quarantine puppy that became my emotional support as I dealt with a hurricane of emotions and creativity.
