Artist Statement

“The Daily Planet” is a 3 foot tall LEGO Skyscraper, I designed it digitally in Stud.io, and then assembled it physically after custom ordering the pieces directly from LEGO. My main goal was to copy the 1990s “Metrowave” aesthetic that we see in Superman: The Animated Series, and other media that depicts Superman’s fictional city of Metropolis. The architecture of the structure is an amalgamation of various incarnations of the “The Daily Planet”; from Richard Donner’s 1978 film, to the 2017 “Injustice 2” version. Also included in the build are custom designed minifigure versions of the most iconic Daily Planet staff: Perry White, Lois Lane & Jimmy Olsen. The four separate floors of the structure separate into modular individual units for indoor access. In addition to the build, I added a display of LED lights to each floor’s interior. These lights were provided by BrickLoot, and are powered by a portable USB charge brick.
