Artist Statement

My work is centered on communication and allowing me to be able to share stories of my life into a format that words fall short of. I want the viewers to be encouraged by my work process to dig into their own subconscious and create art from a place of healing.

The work of art is going to be an oil painting on canvas. My reason for selecting this media is because it is the most effective for creating works with a high level of rendering. Every detail is carefully crafted to enrich the quality and render the piece dreamy and velvety.

I believe that art therapy is an integrative mental health service that fosters healing to better the wellness of ones mental being (Sousa). With or without a licensed art therapist, there are some artists who use art making as a therapeutic tool to help improve their lives and is paramount to their art making process. The practice can be used to help people explore emotions, develop self-awareness, cope with stress and trauma, boost self-esteem, and even work on social skills. Within this therapeutic process, the patient or artist undergoes a state of mind where they attempt to work on a problem at a subconscious level. When a light is shined onto the subconscious the mind is free from suppressed energy and frees its vital life force allowing one to live in harmony with their truth. At our subconscious we no longer have to live a life driven by our limited beliefs and fears. The beauty of the human minds ability to create outstanding works of art lies within the untapped potential of the subconscious.
