Moving through Loss
This series dives into emotional states that one experiences when dealing with the loss of a loved one through three ceramic busts. I use primary colors and their associations to convey depression (Blue), heart break (Red), and healing (Yellow) in three separate pieces. I use a combination of sculpted and painted surfaces to explore emotional states through each piece. I paint the facial expressions in underglazes on smooth parts of the work, which allows for great detail and creates contrast with carved hands, hair and other elements. I use my own likeness for the facial features and hand gestures to relate the grieving process I went through when losing a loved one. In exploring the three emotional states through these forms, I intend to have the audience reflect on their own process of grief.
