This work titled Krafted is influenced by nostalgia from my childhood, specifically the hermetic sealed pizza my dad has and the memories of being nicknamed Cheese at Girl Scout camp. I often fed my dog Kraft singles and was “insulted” by others saying I smell like cheese. In this series of functional objects, I took Kraft singles and altered the surface of each slice through laser etching. I vacuum sealed the cheese in panels and sewed them together in a grid pattern to provide support for the surface that is slowly going to shrink, morph and mold over time. The patterns in the slices are interpretations of raindrops and are assembled with branded and off branded cheese singles. My goal with this series is to bring absurd materials into unexpected items like a rain jacket and an umbrella and counteract the idea of longevity in material culture.
