Artist Statement
“The Art of Transformation” is a sculptural assemblage made of a series of plaster castings displayed on a single shelf. The three-dimensional piece represents the transformative qualities that individuals benefit from when creating art, through the representation of a physical object literally being altered before our eyes. The work touches on the idea of surrealism through its manipulation of form and structure while demanding a linear movement from the eye. Artistic activities fulfill a fundamental human need, satisfying an intrinsic and deep human imperative. Societies throughout history have invested great time, energy and resources into art making. I believe everyone is an artist, and every artwork leads to a unique encounter by the observer or participant, may it be sensory, emotional, cognitive, interactive or a spiritual experience. I hope to communicate to the viewer the important role that art plays within our daily life and persuade them to reflect on their relationship with it. I want the viewer to see themselves within this piece and contemplate or explore the ideas of what art has done for them.Whether it be artistic collaboration, community art-making or participatory and interactive art opportunities, we need to continue to fuel our creativity as a means of fulfillment.
