Artist Statement
GLOSSOLALIA
My work is entirely process-based. I start by creating a piece in traditional watercolors, thinking about line and shape while keeping a sense of fluidity and an unfocused hand throughout. It is an automatic process for me, and the shapes created come naturally and without premeditation. Traditional meaning or content is not the point of my creative process, but rather the aesthetic outcomes produced through the editing process is prioritized, as is the potential for a dialogue and interaction with my viewers. After taking images of the traditional work, I import it into a number of digital art programs and then alter and deconstruct it to make it entirely unrecognizable from the watercolor image it came from. My favorite aspect of producing work in this way are the new possibilities which can be explored. The bright neon colors and stark contrasts featured in my work can only be made and seen in a digital environment.
