Artist Statement

My work focuses on the combination of historical craft with contemporary fabrication solutions. Some of my influences are drawn from historical books and documents to contemporary fabricators and craftspeople. My current work has had a heavy focus on the forging and fusing of metals. I am drawn to the aesthetic labor-intensive process of patterning steel and nonferrous metals through fusing. This process allows me to work intuitively with the beautiful metals patterns while having strong form and function in the formal construction of the piece. My work aims to call the attention of the viewer to the qualities of the fused metals in functional objects.  The intuitive nature of my work is best evident with my mokume gane brooches and my bells.
