Artist Statement

I am without my chosen medium of clay, without equipment. Instead, while first in quarantine and then isolation, I have begun exploring the creation and manipulation of forms and my aesthetic interests utilizing papier-mâché.

My new method of making mirror my ceramic practice. Combining and creating forms, issues of function, and aesthetic choices and the relationship between form and space are all at play. By continuing my interest in dissecting classic vessel forms, simplifying them to their basic shapes, and exploring color and unexpected finishes, I have ended up with a body of work not originally intended or envisioned for my graduating semester.  However, through all of this though I have had the ability to keep myself in a healthy space, and to push my ideas of functional ware forward while using another means to achieve it. A small collection of funky vessels has come out of this experience, and in turn it has excited me and made me look forward to being reunited with my studio space and practice.
