Artist Statement

I focus on creating functional everyday objects using materials that fit a specific form and function. My goal is always to make a piece that is useful and is made from sustainable materials, while I explore multiple processes and finishes. In the series of work “Unadorned” I have played with a multitude of processes for making each wooden piece. By utilizing Rhinoceros CAD modeling program, I am able to create more eccentric bends and curves in each piece than I would be able to do by hand. By utilizing the CNC router, I can cut my exact model in a precise manner, which allows for making multiple pieces in less time.

I enjoy playing with old and new technologies to produce fully functional objects. Some pieces in “Unadorned” Series have the same design focus and aesthetic as the CNC router generated objects, but are done entirely by hand, a more minimal way to make. These cooking utensils, trays and plant stand are meant to be simple and used in everyday life. Aesthetically I find myself drawn to concise forms, forms that don’t compete with their environment, forms that can fit in any space.
