Closed Doors is a series that is a confrontation of my own memories and emotions. These passages are obstacles I have had to get past. Can you go over them? Can you go under them? Can you go around them? No, you must go through them.
I have digitally fabricated doors I’ve walked through in my life into a physical space that will interest the viewer into their own memories within the representational objects, artifacts. Using technology I am able to incorporate details and use materials I felt, even if they may not have been there. Creating from emotional experiences that I’ve had to unpack within myself, I expect to make space for a place of growth from memories that have affected me. It started with a list of the places I have been and ends with what I take with me.
Each frame is creating a space between you and itself. Think about these doors as a barrier between you and the other side and how this space feels. Maybe a door between your home and the outside world, or maybe a door between you and someone else, or a door between you and an opportunity. What is the door for you? Where does it lead?
This work is being produced in 2021, the final year of my college career. The COVID-19 pandemic coming to a conclusion, this is a period after a time of much isolation, self reflection, and learning. My own memories are both the subject and maker of the series.
