Artist Statement

While exploring unknown physical terrain, we can delve deeper into our own selves and our bonds with others. Spending time in the natural world can provide the mind-space to think about things greater than what is immediately seen. While this form of meditation and reflection may not be for everyone, it is for printmaker, Julia Scheckel. She highlights not only connection to the earth in her work, but also connections to other people. While traveling with those she is close to, relationships grow and change, and bonds of friendship strengthen. In these prints, Scheckel shows a personal narrative about connection and exploration. She illustrates the intertwining of the land, companions, and of oneself.
