Artist Statement

“The Harsh Realities of Being a Woman” focuses on the issues women in today’s society face every day. This piece is a collection of spreads showcasing these issues through photography, typography, and graphic design. While viewing the piece, there is no specific order in which the prints are supposed to be viewed in. Each separate component tells its own story and addresses its own issue, and while combined, gives the viewer a thorough explanation of various issues women have to deal with every day. Themes revolving around women have been prevalent in my work ever since I was in middle school. My work is raw and unfiltered with the purpose of confronting societal issues women consistently face. Being a woman, this theme has great significance to me because I face these challenges every day. Others must consider the topics addressed as well, as it affects everyone, whether it be direct or indirect. The goal of this project is to educate and create a sense of community. There is a lot we can learn by studying these issues, and we can come together to support one another throughout the process.
