Artist Statement

The work One last ride seeks to help the viewer empathize with a narrative of human growth and development over time. Playing as the character one experiences his life vicariously, through simulation, even as abstract as a 1Bit platformer one.

One last ride focuses on the memories of a man, we get to experience the man’s life through his memories. Each of his memories remain fragmented and distilled from each other. They are unlocked by defeating various “bosses” in the game, so the story is unlocked based on how much one plays and what the player does in the afterlife.

The game relies heavily on the mood rather than symbolism, much of the memories are obfuscated and confusing to the player. They paint a rather conflicting life story of the man, he struggles with alcoholism, violence, perversion. It is my goal that the viewer can see their own struggles reflected in the man as they play out his last train ride.
