Artist Statement
All chained up is a series of jewelry pieces that use various techniques of chainmaille weaves and patterns combined to create unexpected and unique designs. The necklaces in the series have adornments such as glass beads and chainmaille pendants or charms. Aluminum jump rings, silver enameled copper jump rings, and glass beads were used to create everything in the All chained up series. All of the pieces are unique; therefore, there is no single subject matter, and can be interpreted based on individualized ideas. The theme of the overall series is simply a mash-up of different alternative styles that I enjoy and want to wear together. I explored sizes, shapes, lengths, and patterns while creating these pieces and chainmaille weaves that may not be well known to the audience. I created All chained up due to my interest in chainmaille as well as my desire to learn more about the technique so that I can incorporate it into future projects. This technique has a very long history and is no longer dedicated solely to the use of armor or industrial processes. Therefore, I would like to further express the modern uses of this technique with my art in the form of jewelry making.
