Flowers From Beyond is a narrative around my coming of age, battling depression and anxiety. The bright colors erupting from my work has provided me with comfort; my gravitation to color has kept me grounded. The unexpected pops of color represent many uncertainties in life. Each flower flourishes like the people in my life that have grown around me to help me get through the darkest moments.

My mother, Dianne, is my Iris. Faith, wisdom, hope, and valor are the words associated with the Iris and my mother has always given me faith and hope that things do get better. She has blessed me with so much wisdom about life and has always been my warrior.

Sunflowers have always been my favorite flowers. They stand for adoration and loyalty. Good friends are rare and I am blessed with a few. Nicole has been one of the most important of them. With a strange start to our friendship represented by the unusual color additive. The sunflower stands as the mutual respect, love, and loyalty we have for one another. She filled a void in my life that I was unaware that I could mend.

The gladiolus is a flower for remembrance in where I choose to remember those who I no longer have in my life. The toxic environment that I was surrounded by. Rather than focusing on the negatives of those people, I remember the few great memories we had. I cherish those moments that I can remember.

Finally, the collages are my melting pot of everything and everyone who has been part of my life. My experiences layer over one another to create one full picture of my life. These prints create full visibility of all the people in my life.
