Artist Statement

Connected is a round sculpture made out of aluminum that is suspended at eye level.   Whether large or small, narrow, wide or solid circles in the round are interacting with the light. The floating open form make one aware of the space around in relation to the object.

Feeling separate and dislocated following the COVID pandemic, I strive to capture the connection between humans using the circle. The meaningful symbol of the circle can allude to oneness, wholeness, unity, perfection, infinity, life without beginning or end, or the balance of the cosmos. Inspired by the work of Jaumè Plensa I set out to capture the individuality of each circle connected together to form one whole cohesive orbital form.

Each aluminum circle once cut was heated (annealed) then formed with a hammer to the correct radius using a hollowed out stump prior to being connected through a weld. Working with aluminum is an arduous process which I feel parallels the hardships humans endure to stay or be connected.
