Pinch

Pinch explores the intersection of fabrication technology and traditional craftsmanship through sculptural furniture. This piece harmonizes the organic quality of wood and precise customization of 3D printing. The table’s structure is formed through laminate plywood bending, which enhances the negative space, along with processes of CNC-milling. The question of “How was it made?” is prominent in the design. The 3D printed accents serve to balance contemporary technologies with traditional furniture making. I hope this piece encourages viewers to appreciate the innate qualities of discrete materials, while considering how they interact with one another. I believe digital fabrication methods demonstrate the potential to expand the possibilities of furniture design. This variety of processes and materials embodies my interest in exploring new design techniques. The table’s form is both aesthetically pleasing and practical, serving as a versatile addition to any space. The body navigates elements of sculpture, while the piece as a whole entails a visible function. Through this piece, I invite the audience to examine the unification of woodworking techniques and progressive technology, and how these intersections can lead to innovative design of the future.
