Artist Statement

Identifying Visual Identity

Identifying Visual Identity is a series of three infographics that explore the aspects that are important to a brand’s visual identity; Brand Personality, Sensory Branding, and Logo Design. The infographics visually explore how each aspect creates a memorable brand experience. The Brand Personality infographic demonstrates the five brand personality types (Sophistication, Sincerity, Competence, Ruggedness, Excitement) and the design elements that shape them. The Sensory Branding infographic explores how designers can manipulate the five senses to create a psychological impact on an audience. The Logo Design infographic breaks down the parts of a logo, explains the different types of logos and the strategies used to make them stand out. I chose to present this information through infographics because infographics are pieces of design themselves. With infographics, I have the ability to put the branding techniques discussed into action to further illustrate the information. Each infographic is 600px by 1800px and is meant to be viewed and scrolled though on a computer screen. They were designed using Adobe Illustrator. My target audience is brand designers and small businesses looking for tips on how to make their brand memorable. The main takeaway I hope the project provides is the importance of visual identity and how it impacts more than you may think. I want audiences to consider the thought process that goes behind deciding on a visual identity and the things that define it.
