Modern Funktion

This body of work is a modular set of multi-functional furniture inspired by mid-century modern and Scandinavian design. It consists of a chair, footrest, and table that can be interchanged or used in multiple ways, and all the components double as shelving. I utilized simple shapes and geometric lines, carrying them throughout all three pieces to create negative pockets of space and the secondary function of shelving. I designed these pieces using the 3D modeling software Autodesk Fusion 360, fabricated them out of plywood that was cut using a table saw, and fastened them together with dowels and screws. There is also the inclusion of removable cushions to add comfort and a pop of color. These pieces embrace mid-century modern and Scandinavian design through their minimalism, clean lines, natural materials, and functionality. The installation includes all three pieces in a life-size format to allow for an experience of the pieces as they are intended to be used. While the set can be used for an individual, it can also be transformed in a number of ways to encourage human interaction as these pieces can accommodate multiple people.
