Art History Minor
Artist Statement
Allie Garcia will be graduating in the spring of 2020 from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Arts in Sculpture and a minor in Art History. From her time in school she was able to participate in multiple showcases and granted several scholarships for her work. In 2017 Garcia was given the opportunity to study abroad in Italy, it was here she found a love and true appreciation for architecture as well as the people she had left back home. Since returning from her trip abroad Garcia’s work began to move towards reflecting her surroundings and what inspires her. She is always working through new ideas with the goal for her work to manifest those ideas into physical form. Garcia continues to create work that invites a visual and conceptual conversation with the viewer, by reflecting on her childhood and focusing that nostalgic energy into her work. Thus far the body of work she has created differs greatly from piece to piece, she feels as though she is everchanging and that her work should do the same. Garcia does not feel bound by one style of art or specific medium as she enjoys challenging herself to work with new materials and processes. After graduation, Garcia plans to take time to travel abroad to immerse herself with new landscapes and cultures to inspire future work.
