Artist Statement

Looking to the past to generate new ideas is something that I focused heavily on in this body of work, An Opulent Façade. Learning about the work of master craftsmen from hundreds of years ago and bringing it into a contemporary context was the driving force with these architecture based wearable pieces.   

Bringing together historical architectural motifs and jewelry was inspired by tabletop role playing games, such as Dungeons and Dragons and Warhammer. The intricate details on the game pieces harkened to my love of adding the most miniscule detail, even if the average viewer would not be able to tell just by a once over glance at the piece.   

I use a similar aesthetic language of the model architecture pieces, conventions of 3D printed jewelry, and tabletop role playing game pieces. Resin as a medium affords me the opportunity to hyperfixate on the complexity of the structures and surfaces. I use a Rhino modeling software and keep the playfulness of a tabletop game with hand painting in all of the small details and adding plant life.   

The goal for this series of wearable objects is to create a space where the viewer could disconnect from reality, even if for a moment, and imagine where the piece could be from and the fictional events that could have taken place at such a location.
