A Wake from a Different Path (Self Portrait)
I am an interdisciplinary 3D artist from Dallas, TX currently living in Milwaukee, WI. I create works that explore how memories are brought forward from our day-to-day experiences, as we encounter objects that remind us of pain and loss. I utilize recycled materials that contain the stories and fingerprints of those before us to hold vigil with the past and present. My process of replacement, erasure, and assemblage investigates how we come to understand our own history to move forward while holding space for parts of us that may remain. In A Wake from a Different Path (Self Portrait), I am holding a vigil to reconcile my experience in Junior High as the intended victim of gun violence. Each day of the installation, I shall re-light LED candles, erase and re-draw clouds and “#ThoughtsAndPrayers” in chalk to confront our modern failed responses to gun violence in the era of social media.
