I’m Deaf. Many hearing people assume Deaf people are the best at lip-reading, which is not true for most Deaf people. Often in the Deaf community, we try our best to guess what hearing people are trying to say, but most of the time, our thoughts are wrong. Also, sometimes hearing people don’t realize that hearing aids and cochlear implants are not one hundred percent helpful. Often, we do feel overwhelmed when we hang out with hearing people like family or friends. For example, when hearing people are chatting, I have a hard time deciding which person I should focus on listening to because everyone is talking at the same time. Frequently, when hearing people find out that I’m Deaf, then they tell me that they’re sorry. Most Deaf people are proud to be Deaf, which means hearing people shouldn’t say “I’m sorry” to them. This video shows a Deaf perspective through a silent soundtrack to help the viewer understand our struggle.
