Milwaukee Column prototype showing Mariotte bottle influent, sand-packed PVC column, and bucket effluent

The Paradis laboratory is located in Lapham Hall, Room 230, and can be reached via phone at 414-229-6602 during normal business hours (M-F 8 AM to 5 PM). The lab is approximately 800 square feet and is completed with gas, vacuum, and air pressure lines at each bench, a fume hood, three sinks (one with an acid drainage line), and a clean room.  The lab typically runs batch microcosm and flow through column tests using non-reactive and reactive tracers to study physical, chemical, and microbiological processes in variably-saturated granular and fractured media. The lab is outfitted with typical environmental equipment such as: fridge, freezer, oven, scales, pH/DO/ORP meters, ion-specific probes (Cl, Br, I), pumps (peristalitc and syringe), fraction collectors, transducers (pressure and temperature), water level meters, desktop computers, tablets, etc.  The lab also has access to and shares high-end chemical and biological equipment with UWM’s Kenwood IRC and UWM’s School of Freshwater Science.
